Best Practice Spotlight: Strengthening Awareness Through Community Partnerships

Connecting with civic and community organizations is one of the most effective ways to raise awareness about CASA/GAL programs and recruit new volunteers. CASA of the Tennessee Heartland recently demonstrated this best practice when Executive Director Kesha Waters was invited to speak at the Kiwanis Club of Oak Ridge about the organization’s mission and current initiatives.

During the event, Waters shared how CASA volunteers serve as the voice for children in Anderson and Blount counties—ensuring that every child who has experienced abuse or neglect has a dedicated advocate in court. By engaging directly with community partners like Kiwanis, CASA of the Tennessee Heartland is deepening local understanding of its work and inspiring new connections with potential supporters and volunteers.

Network Best Practices in Action:

  • Build relationships with civic organizations. Partnering with groups such as Kiwanis, Rotary, or local chambers of commerce expands awareness and credibility within the community.
  • Use speaking engagements to educate and inspire. Sharing real examples of volunteer impact helps audiences connect emotionally with the mission.
  • Invite collaboration. Encourage attendees to become advocates, sponsors, or ambassadors who help spread the word.
  • Align messaging with the national brand. Always use accurate naming conventions—such as “CASA of the Tennessee Heartland” and “CASA volunteers”—to maintain consistency across the network.

By investing in local partnerships and using every conversation as an opportunity to tell the CASA/GAL story, programs can strengthen their presence, attract dedicated volunteers, and ensure that more children have a voice in court.
