Black History Month
This month, we honor the legacy of Black leaders who fought for justice, equity, and the dignity of every person—including children.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who spent his final days in Tennessee advocating for equality, once said:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
At CASA of the Tennessee Heartland, those words guide our work every day. When children experience abuse or neglect, advocacy becomes essential. By standing up for a child’s best interests, we help ensure their voice is heard and their future protected.
As we reflect on Black history, we recommit ourselves to justice in action—because every child deserves safety, stability, and hope.

Advocacy changes lives—today and for generations to come.

National Make a Friend Day Feb 11th
This day is all about friendship — showing up, listening, and standing by someone when they need it most.
At CASA of the Tennessee Heartland, we’re known as a “friend of the court,” but more importantly, we’re a friend to children in foster care.
A CASA volunteer is often the one consistent adult who listens, advocates, and speaks up for a child’s best interests.

This National Make a Friend Day, we invite you to become a Friend of the Court by becoming a CASA volunteer.
When you advocate for a child, you’re not just helping navigate the system —

You’re being a trusted presence.

You’re being a voice.

You’re being a friend.

Ready to make a difference?

Promoting Safe Sleep for Infants

In 2021, Tennessee lost 139 infants to deaths that resulted from—or were associated with—unsafe sleep environments. Most of these tragedies were preventable. As advocates for children and families, we play an important role in helping caregivers create safer spaces for their babies.
To reduce the risk of sleep-related infant death, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend following the ABCs of Safe Sleep.
Caregivers often want to do the right thing—they just may not know what safe sleep looks like or why it matters.
To support these conversations, the handout What Does a Safe Sleep Environment Look Like (Safe Sleep Environment | Safe to Sleep®) are available in the CASA office .
We encourage you to review this handout for more detailed information and pick some up and share them with anyone who may benefit from clear, practical guidance.
